POSITION SUMMARY  

  

The Program Coordinator will play a key role in delivering high-quality pre-employment workshops to job-seekers in Pickering through our “Career Quest” and “Future Foundations” programs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about career development, community engagement, and workshop facilitation.   

  

 

Major Duties  

  • Facilitate Career Quest and Future Foundations workshops in Pickering for up to 15 participants per session, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. 
  • Engage Employment Specialists in the recruitment process for clients referred to the Career Quest and Future Foundations workshops.  
  • Assess participant progress and evaluate the effectiveness of the programs, making recommendations for improvement as needed. 
  • Coordinate with guest speakers with specialized knowledge to support with workshops  
  • Manage workshop logistics, including venue booking, and materials preparation. 
  • Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, feedback, and progress, as required. 
  • Evaluate client’s skills, interests, and experiences to determine their strengths and areas for development; create solution-focused employment and action plans. 
  • Accurately make updates to internal tracking systems in a timely manner. 
  • Collaboration with the Recruitment Specialist team for job placement opportunities for Youth with Higher Support Needs. 
  • Provide a rationale for all service decisions. 
  • Maintain case notes and action plans regularly and promptly, ensuring continuity and completeness in records and service delivery. 
  • Attain or exceed contractual targets for SSM Specialized Services, completing and submitting required statistical information on a weekly and monthly basis, and as required. 

 

Other Duties:  

  • Inform management of trends and client concerns. 
  • Review monthly targets on an ongoing basis individually and with the Program Manager to identify and address areas of concern. 
  • Assist with training new staff. 
  • Attend job fairs and community events as required. 
  • Attend staff meetings and record minutes on a rotating basis. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of service users and agency matters at all times. 
  • Determine client need for employment related financial support and follow stipend request process to issue the support to client. 


Job Skills

Knowledge and Skills  

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., education, human resources, career development). 
  • Proven experience in facilitation, program coordination, or related fields, with a focus on employment workshops or community engagement. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. 
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and best practices in workshop facilitation. 
  • Ability to navigate local government systems and processes. 
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including those from underrepresented groups. 
  • Knowledge of employment and career development resources in the Durham Region. 
  • Bilingualism (English/French) or proficiency in another language relevant to the community we serve is an asset. 
  • Ability to provide a current vulnerable sector check upon being hired 
  • Valid Driver’s License as this position requires travel within the Durham Region
