Employment Specialist - Refugee Career Connect

Job Description

Position Summary:

This role’s primary responsibility will be to provide a solution-focused approach to assisting clients in finding employment. This role involves facilitating employment-related information sessions/ workshops with partners, providing job matching to all clients, and ensuring participants are equipped with the tools and resources needed to achieve sustainable employment. The incumbent provides guidance, coaching, and information to case-managed clients on all aspects of employment search. The Employment Specialist provides individualized support to refugee claimants in their job search journey.


Major Duties

•Facilitate two 5-day pre-employment workshops on a monthly basis for refugee claimant participants in the Durham region in a culturally sensitive manner

•Develop workshops material related to addressing barriers to employment, job search strategies, interview skills, networking skills, social media and other skills necessary for job search in the Canadian market

.•Conduct one-on-one assessments and coaching with participants who attend the information sessions to understand their skills, experience, and employment goals

.•Develop and conduct information sessions on Mental Health and Trauma support

.•Conduct cultural adaptation programs that help clients adjust to their new environment and culture.

•Organize and lead refugee job fairs and other workshops based on participant needs (e.g., navigating the Canadian workplace, digital literacy, etc.)•Provide ongoing contact with clients throughout the monitoring phase as per mandatory contact frequencies established by the program

.•Regularly research opportunities for training and skills development for clients.

•Work collaboratively with team members and clients to support the clients

.•Maintain electronic client records and protects the confidentiality of the information

.•Perform administrative functions as required by the program

.•Ensure all data is accurate and entered on a timely basis.

•Maintain effective communication of information among internal and external stakeholders

.•Provide support to clients of team members as needed

.•Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to strengthen the program's impact

.•Stay informed about local labor market trends and share relevant updates with participants

•Other duties as required.

Job Skills

What you bring:

•A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Psychology, Social Services or Education

•Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a job counsellor, or career coach

•Experience creating tailored employment action plans and monitoring client progress is amust.

•Experience conducting workshops for large groups of clients is a must

•Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle, as frequent travel between Ajax andPickering will be required

•Experience working with refugee claimants is a strong asset

•Multilingualism is a strong asset

•Ability to multitask and work independently with little supervision

•Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds is a strong asset

•Creative, innovative and able to offer suggestions for continuous improvement.

•Flexibility regarding assigned work hours and location, willingness to work some eveningsand/or weekends if needed for job fairs, community events or events of similar nature.

•Ability to provide a current vulnerable sector check upon being hired
